They were abused by critics in their day because they were put together by a corporation and they didn't write their own songs.
Today that's 90% of pop music. Poor Monkeys. Born too soon...

The Monkeys were misunderstood and never given the credit they deserved.
Who could ever forget the wonderful phrasings like:
Da, Do, Da, Do , Dah
and the ingenious wisdom of:
"I thought love was only true in fairy tells, meant for someone else but not for me"
The methodical brilliance instuctional tune, "Take the last train to Clarksville and I'll meet you at the station, you can be here by 4:30 and I've made your reservation, Don't be slow, oh, no, no, no, no,..oh. no.no,no,no" BRILLIANT!
Or the simplisity and descriptiveness of : "Here we come walking down,the street, we get the funniest looks from, every one we meet. Hey, Hey, we're the Monkeys"
I get chills just remembering those wonderful times!

The Monkeys were a great gropu. It doesn't matter who wrote them or who played the instruments.
The Monkeys were a band we needed at the time. I really wish we had one like that again.
