Question:

Please help me! It's simple!?

I just took a practice SAT test, and I don't know what the score mean, can anyone explain?

They are:

Critical reading-540
Writing-490
Math-640

First, I think you should be asking this question of your guidance counselor.

Second, the scores you give are scaled scores based on your raw score.

Your raw score is based on a formula that involves the number of questions you got right minus some fractional part (it used to be 1/4) of the number you got wrong.

These raw scores are converted to scaled scores based on averages of scores of all the people who have taken the SAT's over some recent period of time.

The max score you can get is 800 as I recall. To get into top flight schools you should have scores in the 700/s.

But, hey, I didn't do that well on my SATs, went to a community college for a couple years where I got serious about my studies, and then completed my degree at a four year college with honors.

So while your scores could be higher, there is no cause for despair.

Some of it has to do with just knowing how to take a test. There are test prep books and CDs you can get relatively cheaply.
