Bad sound on bass?!

Question:

Bad sound on bass?

i am a beginer in bass and i am getting a weird noise when i put my finger down on a fret. am i pushing the string to hard moving it or what am i doing

Answers:

I take it you mean you get the weird sound after you cause the string to sound with the right hand fingers. (assuming you are right handed) When depressing a string at the fret, firmly hold the string down with enough pressure to have it resting over the fret. Your finger should be behind the fret as close as you can get without touching the fret. Your finger should never be directly on top of the fret. Your hand should be relaxed, using just the finger to hold the string down. No need to use a "gorilla grip"

Also, What I find with beginner bassist is that they tend to pull or pluck too hard with the right hand The idea is to set the string in motion with a touch. It is the job of the amp to bring out the volume.
After correcting the above items and you still have a weird noise check to see if the string is touching other frets when sounding. This is usually described as a buzzing sound. In this case take your bass to a qualified technician and have them take a look at it. This may mean your neck and/or action may need adjusting.
