Who are the greatest male & female emcees of all time? Lyrically? My picks would be Rakim & Lauryn Hill.?
I'm not referencing those who are "entertaining" to hear. I'm talking about they have lyrics of substance---not just bootie, bling and booze. I would also have to throw Chuck D of Public Enemy in here as well. There are more---most assuredly, but hit me back and let me know what YOUR picks are!!! HOLLA!
And though Lauryn is a bit on the eccentric side these days, you still have to give her props for her work with the Fugees as well as her solo effort, "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill". What are some of your favorite songs by the male and female emcee that you chose? My fave by Rakim is "Mahogany" ("Know the Ledge" or "Paid In Full" would be close seconds...) For Lauryn, I'd have to say, "Do Wop--That Thing", "Jerusalem" (from MTV's Unplugged) and there are others.
