What is the best way to promote a band with little to no money? Suggestions?
My band has been doing shows here and there for a bit and we are trying to think up better ideas on how to promote our shows and get our band name out there. We don't have a lot of money to work with at the time. So what are some good ways of getting people to at least take a listen and check us out? In San Diego, there are a million bands. So we are trying to stand out in someway.

If you have limited cash, all you can do is get out there more and play, if you are any good your band will develop a core following who will end up promoting you by word of mouth.
When you have a gig don't be afraid to promote the hell out of yourselves. it doesn't cost very much to make up a simple flyer and then run off a couple hundred copies. and then take them down to where the clubs are and place them on the windshields of the club patrons. pass them out to people walking around down town.
The thing you have to remember is that until the day comes that your band becomes successful and can afford to hire a management firm you have to not only be the musician you also have to be the bands manager and promoter and not be afraid to get your hands a little dirty. find a printer to make up some bumper stickers hand them out to your friends.
hell if you have people that hang around the band at your rehearsals tell them nothings free and put them to work to help promote your band, bottom line what ever it takes get your bands name out there
