Who would you put on a modern League of Extraordinary Gentleman?!

Question:

Who would you put on a modern League of Extraordinary Gentleman?

I was wondering if a modern league was to be put together who would be on it?

My rules for membership are that...

1. They have to have been a novel/book before they were a movie or TV show.

2. No comic book characters. (i.e. Superman, Wolverine, etc. I may accept a Batman type character)

3. They have to be modern. So someone you would see being a hero from the 1990s and up.

Off the top of my head the people I like for a League are....

Jason Bourne and Clarice Starling. But who knows.

So tell me what you think. Who would be in the modern league comic book?

Answers: Jack Ryan of course and at least one of Anne Rice's vampires or Stephen King's figures-- probably LeStat. Bourne, as I remember has been around since at least the eighties and so I'd like to point out that when I talk to kids the closest to a modern day equivalent to Tom Sawyer is Holden Caulfield from the fifties. Zoyd and his daughter from Thomas Pynchon's Vineland (1990) should squeak through, plus of course that would provide some nice sixties style anarchy to such a group (tormenting Ryan probably and making for a fun read).

I essentially read the League, frankly, as a species of comic book Steam Punk. As such I almost have a problem with the idea of bringing it into the modern world. Publishing has changed to reflect society. And characters like Dr. Who, who typify our dreams of today the way Alan Quartermain, Tom Sawyer and Edward Hyde typify our dreams of the Gilded Age are ineligible according to your rule of they must have appeared in a book first. But if you want a collection of modern classic figures, I haven't noticed the four or five I've mentioned. in anyone else's answers. uhh yeh bourne means ya could include summa the reservoir dogs, - even ?unlikely suspects <<ya doc savage , trebumi..?? superspie ? lawnmower , does mothman fit, ? Good question! Here's another five to add to those already suggested:

Aloysius Pendergast: (Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child).
FBI agent with a flair for serial killers and obscure knowledge.

Kay Scarpetta: (Patricia Cornwell) Medical Examiner, forensics expert, damn good cook.

Alex Cross: (James Patterson) Doctor, psychiatrist, detective, FBI.

Repairman Jack: (F. Paul Wilson) Somewhat vigilante "fix-it man" who has erased his existance. Has a flair for the supernatural after getting swept up in a battle between two other-worldly forces.

Anita Blake: (Laurell K. Hamilton) Vampire hunter. Who doesn't need one of these?

Feel like we need an inventor or mechanic / wepons master or mistress...but I'm drawing a blank, any takers? Since this is a what if...
1) Merlin... That's right, legend has it that he lives his life backwards, if that's so, he's probably in his 20's right now and not too powerful, just think a womanizing sorcerer (or druid, depending on your school of thought).

2) Doc Savage. Last we heard from him was that he's trap in some time vortex, which means he could come out at anytime.

3)Sherlock Holmes, could be done with a clone.

4)Dr Zharkov. With the newest reincarnation of Flash Gordon, he's the perfect scientific type.

5)Ford Prefect, You never know when a book that has the comforting words of "Don't Panic" will come in handy.
