Personally, I'm against it. Believe it! Well... no and yes. Haha!

For serious characters, I'd rather give them no catchphrases. It sounded stupid, 'tebayo. But for childish characters (like 5 - 9-year-old children), well, maybe I could give some; like "datte" or "kore", or "nyo" or "kyan". But definitely not "-dattebayo!", and of course, not "Believe it!!". But "you know!" might sound good.

(Okay, I'm insane. @___@) No. catchphrases are stupid. Believe it! possibly if i filled out a personality profile for my character no.. that makes it kind of lame.. sorry if thats not the answer you wanted to hear. Well, look at the Simpsons - bart and his phrases - its a popular series.
According to an article i read from the creator of the Simpsons, he designed his characters to be recognized in a silouette profile.
Id say if you can come up with a great storyline/characters - try a test series with and without catch phrases. No, I would take the route rarely traveled, have an extremey quiet character who just thinks, and people talk to him...(Psychopath...)...0.o...... No. Way. In. Hell.

The only person in Anime who needs a catch phrase is naruto with 'dattebuyo' since it means nothing.

Stupid dub saying 'Beleive it!' That's not even the meaning. It would be a series of catch phrases, men are idiots, men are short sited, with the theme that thinking long term is better than short term for a hero style lady. She would have the theme of a girl making good in a man's world. By the way, I am a guy;p

Slayers, Princess Nine & 801 Airbats did very nice with that theme:) OVA's No. Catchphrases are used up and stale. They also can get quite annoying because everyone will know when the main character is going to say it. No i wouldn't. I'n my opinion it sounds to cliche or too old for that matter. I'm not saying that some don't have any catchphrases but... i guess it's up to the person.
