Either the first Robin who eventually changed to Nighthawk, or the current Robin, Tim Drake. I much prefer Tim Drake because of Identity Crisis, which drew me back into comics.

"Best" is, at best, a subjective term, but Robin (Dick Grayson) is historically the most important, having been the first boy sidekick and establishing the pattern for scores of other such characters. Personally, I prefer Captain Marvel Jr. mainly because for the bulk of his golden age adventures his solo stories had superior artwork and plots that were a cut above average.

There aren't nearly as many sidekicks around these days as there once were, probably because those few who are still around have become problematic because they have accumulated so much history and have lost their sense of timelessness. They have either grown up, as Grayson did, or have been replaced by new youngsters in the same costumes, as Grayson was, which still makes him the chief model for others.
