Answers: think about it, the next avatar after aang will have to learn airbending. and remember what guru pathik said "you are the avatar, and therefore you are a firebender." so thats the same with the avatar being an airbender regardless which nation he/she is born into.

and how will the next avatar learn airbending if there are no more airbenders after aang dies?

Well, hopefully Aang will survive long enough to make some little airbenders but if not maybe the next Avatar could teach themself. Aang did learn some Waterbending moves using just a scroll showing how they are done. This would be no where near as effective as having a Master teach it but if there was no other option, it would probably be the next best thing.

remember the episode where aang was rescued by the two and aang said that he wants to go home? there's a door inside the monestery and they found out the statues of the former avatars. there is a pattern there. the avatar before aang is from a fire nation.

an avatar can be a firebender, airbender, waterbender and earthbender because the avatar is the master of the four elements.

as to your question: if aang dies, how will the nest avatar will learn airbender? as i remembe that episode, aang kinda went into a trance when he locked eyes with the avatar before him. its like the statue is communicating to aang. then the girl said, after seing the statues in the room, she said that there 'people' (the former avatars) are aang's past life. maybe through that, the next avatar after aang can learn airbending.
