Should extremely violent anime like Death Note be banned?!

Question: This is regards to the Belgium murders.
Being into old type anime like Robotech,Astroboy,Ulysses, Hacksign, Slayers etc I find that some anime has gone overboard with killing. It is because of these types of anime that people tend to think that anime is nothing but violence. China has completely banned Death Note due to its graphic content. Any anime that has high levels of blood and violence should have a warning on the DVD that it is not suitable for people with mental conditions or at the start of the DVD state that the anime is completely fictional and should not be imitated in public.

They musn't be banned they are created to be watched by anime fanatics. Youre right! There must me a consent that "violence should have a warning on the DVD that it is not suitable for people with mental conditions". If the violent anime is being banned, why did the movie makers makes a violent movies. Anime is 100% fictional they can live and be brought to life by the animator if they want to. Live Violent movies like horror is much violence than anime.

Try watching a good romance anime like School Days I'm sure you'll love it!

hey, give me a break!!!!!!!
death note doesn't have THAT much of violence, there're so many other anime that has more than what death note has, you tell me now, where's the violence in death note?
the killing way is writing down the names and they automatically die by heart attack (something like that), almost all of the killing cases were by that way and the rest of the episodes is the chase between L and Light, and Near and Light, so it's ok to at least have some thrilling scenes in an anime, that's what makes death note special...

first of all to answer your question should anime with excessive violence be banned no anime is just as important to ppl as movies and there fav. t.v. shows and most of those have more violence than many anime plus most anime is set in a different time period they just non worldly method of killing all that i am saying is that you have to be very sick to kill because you saw it in and anime

plus (keep death note out of this its a good respectable anime that has done nothing wrong except for that last arc) lol

Depends on the country.

In my opinion, anime and real-action TV does not have much differences. There's also lots of violent movies, such as hostel, saw etc... Do they ban it?

Also, death note is not extremely violent. I don't even think it's violent at all D:

Depends.. Sometimes, a show is made to 'sastisfy' the audience wants..Theres a case in Japan, where a 16yr old girl murdered her dad, banning shld be considered.. Heard that they sort of blamed school days and Higurashi No Naku Koro ni..
Hmm..I think banning some thing will bring about many difficulties and disagreement..

The best way to drive greater demand is to ban something. We live in a violent world. Entertainment in all its forms is bound to reflect this fact. Blaming people's actions on animated shows is asinine at best. Humans have been doing all kinds of nasty things to each another for a very long time, certainly well before animation was around.
Animators are simply providing the audience what they clearly want (based on the popularity of shows like Death Note). They do this because they know it will sell. If it didn't they'd go out of business. Change will only come about if people want it to. I don't see that desire.

That's like blaming video games for school shootings. They don't cause the other. The people, no matter what they watch or do, are the ones with the problem, the entertainment they take part in is not the cause of the problem. When some terrible like that happens, people look for blame and excuses. Reasons that the person or persons would do what they did, because surely to gosh they wouldn't crack without playing or watching violent things.

I would be interrested in seeing who would listen to a warning of "not intended for people with mental conditions" I've never heard that one before. And an extra warning on a cartoon that it is fictional and not in the real world is down right excessive. It's like the warning label on the superman costume "wearing of costume does not enable wearer to fly"

As for China banning Death Note, I wouldn't think it's entirely about the content. China has banned most (if not all) American cartoons and quite a bit of anime because they want to promote their budding animation industry. So in other words, they're biased.

if u think thats violent check out elfen lied, and to answer ur question they definately should not be banned. if u dont like them stay away from them.

I leave in China and I never heard that Death Note had been banned herE. I even watch the last episode in a internet bar. And you can buy the counterfeit DVD in the streets very easily.

After for violence, if you find that Death Note is violent, what about Black Lagoon, Detective Conan ( have a lot of blood for young detectives ), Bleach... ?

I don't think that anime have anything to do with violence. Otherwise their would be lots of psychopaths in the streets. I watch anime since I am young ( Dragon Ball, Saint Seiya ) and I am not violent although you have lots of violence and blood in these 2 series.

The thing is how the people have been educated, how they lived their lives, the events that happened...

You could say the same with video games. I played since I'm young too but I'm not violent because they influence me that much. I know how to differentiate reality and fiction.

Death Note's not that violent, there is no actual physical murder. You should see Elfin Lied, now that's violent and gory. I think Death Note's very interesting and it's one of my favourites. Besides, China bans alot of things now. =D

If you have a point, when extremely romantic anime should be banned as well, because they create unrealistic image of the human relationship. Where will you draw a borderline? What about freedom of speech and self-expression which we enjoy under human rights convention. If we forget about them then oneday we wake up in China and going to watch state controled TV. Finally, let me remind you what Japan has the lowest murder rate of all countries despite the fact that they create those violent anime.

Well if you think Death Note is violent wait untill you see Blood+ and Elfen Lied. I watched the first episode of Elfen Lied and It was definitely a splatter anime, there was also great deals of nudity, there was blood splattering everywhere, and nudity almost the whole episode. Blood+ was basicly a girl going around and chopping people in half with a sword. I have never seen Death Note before, but some shows should be banned. Elfen Lied should definitely be banned from ever going on Television.
