Well, Gaara turns good right after Naruto "defeats" him in the Invading the Leaf Village season. He apologizes to Kankuro and Temari. Later during the Sasuke Retrieval, Gaara teams up with Rock Lee in a fight.
After being defeated by Naruto in the failed seige of Konoha, Gaara apologized to his siblings.Technically thats the piont when he became good. After that the siblings of Suna assissted the genins of Konoha in the sasuke Saga.
