Anime is sometimes referred to as Japanimation, but this term has fallen into disuse. Japanimation saw the most usage during the 1970s and 1980s and had continued use up until before the mid-1990s anime resurgence.
I'd never heard it being called that. I have always heard it being called anime.

the japanese use anime. this is derived from the english word animation. It is kind of silly to call it japanamation, just say anime.
That term has rather gone out of style. These days it's called "anime" (pronounced "a" as in "apple", then "ni" as in "nickel", then "may"). It's basically adopting the Japanese word for it, where they dropped the "tion" from "animation".

I've called it Japanimation since the mid to late 80s.
