Can you get a degree in magna?!

Question: It would be possible to study art/illustration and to obtain a degree, but I doubt we'll ever see degrees specifically targeted at the manga industry. Obviously, several years of Japanese as an elective would be a highly practical idea, and an absolute necessity if one chose to study in Japan.

It would also be possible to obtain a Master of Fine Arts in English degree, which would ostensibly teach one how to write for a commercial medium. M.F.A. programs would not recognize Manga as a category onto itself, and it would be unlikely that you would ever study under anyone who actually has any experience in the field.

If you want to teach manga, you might be able to do so as an elective that would count as an Art History course, but you would have to also teach four of five straight Art History/Art Appreciations courses.

No American university is going to award a degree in Manga. If you are thinking that a "degree in manga" would get you into the industry, no degree from any university or proprietary school would help one be accepted into the industry. You would be better off studying art and Japanese, and learning a useful skill in order to be assured of making a living while you tried to break into the industry.
