It's around volume 6...I think.
Around volume 6, but half of the first season of FMA is pretty much filler anyways.

Volume 5 or 6 I believe...
Episode 27 was the last one that was actually based on the manga (even though details in the episodes before that were inconsistent with the manga anyway). At that point, the anime had caught up with the manga, and the author and director agreed to have the anime team write their own story for the rest of the show rather than going on hiatus or doing a bunch of filler.
