Host Club - GREAT manga and anime! It's about a poor girl going to a rich high school. She tries to find a quiet place to study in an abandoned music room but ends up finding the Host Club, a group of male students who wait on female patrons (serving them tea, doing little hilarious perforances :P). On her way out, she accidently breaks an $80,000 vase. Not good. So now she has to dress like a guy and make up the money by working for them!
Trust me, I thought it was a stupid concept, but just read the first manga or watch the first couple episodes and see if you don't fall in love with something about it!
Another one I would suggest is Hana-Kimi, which has a bit of a simliar story. This girl Mizuki has a boy she truly admires (he does high jumping) and she was so enfatuated with him that she posed as a boy to get into his same school in Japan!
I would recommend the ANIME of Fruits Basket to you. The manga just goes crazy in my opinion, probably because I saw the masterpiece of an anime before it, but I would have to recommend you watch it over reading it. It's about a girl who's mom just died and someone goes from living in a tent in the forest to living with some cute guys who...happen to turn into animals! When they're hugged by the opposite sex, they turn into one of the twelve animals of the zodiac + the cat.
It's got such a great story to it and there is a character for everyone!
Alice 19th is one of my favorite mangas ever! It's about a girl who's crush is dating her sister. She gets so mad about her sister being so perfect and always picking on her that she tells her to dissappear...and she does! Alice doesn't know that the darkness in her heart caused this to happen until a bunny girl shows up and tells her the only way to save her sister is to learn and command the "lotis words". I'm terrible at summaries, just take my word on it and try it :P it's a really really cute story and you'll want to cry at some point!

and the only romance anime ive ever watched is love hina, and its not bad
Honestly, I'd recomend Deathnote. I like the manga WAY better then the anime, but you say you'd rather watch it so,
If you dont like ACTION i'd recomend fruits basket
but if you do like action, and havent watched it maybe fullmetal alchemist. I read it, because i'm kinda too lazy to watch it and i like it. its really easy to understand and its really fun too.
