Most people do not like it because you have to think and pay special attention to what is going on and not drift off or else you will not "get it". I think the anime is absolutely intelligent and the animation is spectacular.
It's okay. There is better anime out there. I'm not sure why that movie is so popular. I've seen it several times and it still doesn't make any sense!

It's cyber punk. I love it. Been watching since I saw the movie. I also have the PS2 and PSP game. Motoko Kusanagi kicks butt and the Tachikoma spiders are cute.
I like it. In the manga, Masamune Shirow has fast knowledge. It's almost scary in a way.
