Greatest Anime Ever?!

Question: - In your opinion what is the greatest anime ever made?
- Please give a brief summary about it and why you would recommend it to other people.

I'm doing this because I want to widen my variety of anime. I mainly stick to mainstream anime, but now I want to broaden my anime search and hopefully find some really cool animes that I can call my favorites soon.

Thanks for answering ^^

-Ouran High School Host Club
-Haruhi Fujioka (sp?) suddenly stumbles upon the Ouran High School Host Club. After breaking an expensive vase, she needs to repay them by becoming 'the dog' of the club, doing small errands and such. However, the club had mistakenly taken Haruhi as a guy, and yet when they discover that she is, in fact, a girl, they decide to promote her to 'Host'. They find that she is a natural and the story continues through the school year of their adventures together.

-Bleach
-Ichigo's family has always been peculiar. It doesn't help much that most of them can see ghosts as well. When Ichigo accidentally gains 'Soul Reaper' powers from Rukia, he must act as a substitute Soul Reaper in her place. The story continues as Ichigo trains and and his powers grow as a Soul Reaper.
(I haven't quite finished the series yet. It's really long. o_0)

-Gakuen Alice (Alice Academy)
-Mikan Sakura only wishes to be wherever her best friend Hotaru Imai is. So when Hotaru is suddenly transferred to Alice Academy, Mikan runs away to join her. Mikan discovers that Alice Academy is only for student with a unique gift called 'Alice', and she soon learns that she has an Alice as well. She finds Hotaru and makes several friends and foes as she struggles through the new world she is suddenly thrust in.

I'd also like to suggest Fullmetal Alchemist, Kirina no Corda (La Corda d'Oro), Blood+, Death Note, Full Moon o Sagashite, and Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle. These anime shows are a bit more difficult (for me) to summarize, but I highly suggest these as well. (Or I'm too lazy to write the summaries. ^^ Either way, they're really good.)

All of these Anime caught my interest. I'm not sure why I enjoy them, but I loved them anyways!

(I know the summaries were just awful. I'm not the best at things like that....)

Hope that helps!

You're probably heard of Sailor Moon, it's still pretty old and but in still places in my heart.

The reason because of its popularity among girls back in those days... Your typical shoujo romance girls storyline.

Sailor Moon is about 5 high school girls (think Power Rangers) fighting against evil forces.

NARUTO HANDS DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!

It has a great plot and awesomely created characters!
They feel like real people and you can feel what they feel.
Heck, People fall for the characters left and right.
ANYway
it has a perfect storyline that will have u hooked!
Watch it if you arent already !

Definitely ayashi no Ceres!

this anime is packed with adventure, love, drama, mystery, and so much more! its about a girl who on her 16th birthday turns into a celestial being named ceres. she and ceres must go against an alliance out to destroy them, and must figure out the mystery about the connection of touya.(aya's lover)

thats all im gonna tell! there is way more secrets and on-the-edge-of-your- seat drama!

there are SO many anime I could tell you about! it depends on the genre... there is a mixture of fighting/romance try "loveless" its about a young boy who's brother died in a fire. And his brothers servant, tells this boy that he loves him. Its odd because of one he is a guy, and second he is like 20 when this kid is 12. It turns out he does magick duels with other couples and his brothers real name was "beloved" and the 12 year old is called "loveless" its actually quite good =)

Elfen lied is more gore violance.. with a bit of affection. About this misterious woman with pink hair and horns, that can kill people without touching them and from a distance aswell. yeah it starts off with her walking through a high security area naked killing everyone in sight, but its amazing!

Bleach is starting to get mainstream... but I personally dont think it is, and I love it! about shinigami- and a normal human who becomes a substitute death god when he runs into one.

Any kind of romance is good xP Im not sure if your a girl or boy [[ sorry lol ]] but if your a girl try "peach girl" its very indepth, basically just a love triangle between a guy she has loved for a very long time, and someone who's life she saved. her "best friend" of course being a ***** and doing really bad things to stop her being happy.. and at one point someone pretends to rape someone.. so yeah lol

"fate stay night"
"bokura ga ita"
"fruits basket"
"princess princess" dont be fooled by the frilly title.. its very funny, about three guys who go to an all guy school and have ot dress up as girls to relieve the other studentsof their "girl-less" situation
"rumbling hearts" (Kimi ga Nozomu Eien)
"death note" is DEFINANTLY a must see. By the third episode you will be hooked! its amazing and you simply must watch it! about a smart student who comes across a note book, and if you write someone's name in it they will die from a heart attack. It goes into some very clever and in depth stuff.. its purley amazing.
"She, the ultimate weapon"
"koi kaze" is wrong but very good, about a brother and a sister who havnt seen each other in many years, and when the come together they start to get a bit too close. Its not perverted honestly!
"gravitation"
"air tv" is AMAZING! the ending is confusing.. and makes you think about it for a fair while after but I highly recomend.
"kanon" is made byt he same people who made air, other people say its brilliant and amazing.. but personally its not BRILLIANt but it is very good! people said they cried but I didn't lol.
"gravitation"
"tenchi universe" - grew up watching it... amazing

ther is a list just incase you dont like anything, and can look them up on wikipedia. Im a very fussy anime watcher, and am picky with what I watch. So here is a few ideas for you =)

oh and btw, you have to see "Akira" its a film, made in the 80's. Its basically the reason why we have anime over here now. and without it, wouldnt be the matrix, and I doubt dragonballz would have alot of the stuff it did in!

I'm a girl as well, and I also tend to watch more shonen. But I read more shojo...

My absolute favorite anime would be Samurai Champloo and basically any Miyazaki movies (especially Spirited Away and Castle in the Sky). I also really liked Fullmetal Alchemist, and I'm currently doing Death Note and Naruto... (bittorrents rule btw).

Samurai Champloo is just so great. There's great action, great characters, and the story is interesting. It's 26 episodes long, and I guess some people don't like it because about half way through some of the eps don't have much to do with the actual plot. But that doesn't mean it's not worth watching. I wish they'd make more. Anyway, it's basically about three misfits that are traveling towards one girl's goal. She hired them as bodyguards to help her find someone (and that's all I'm gonna say).

My favorite Miyazaki movie is Spirited Away. You just have to see it if you haven't already. It's about a young girl who must work in a bath house to save her parents. It's really good.

I've recently come across this one new anime called Ghost Hound that just started in Japan. Of what I actually know about it, it's about these three kids who've had traumatic experiences and involves ghosts and out of body experiences. I've only seen the first two episodes, and not much has happened in them.

I used to think "Akira" was the best anime of all time, bar-none. I kinda dug the cool neo-apocalyptic backdrop, very deep mythology of evolution, and of course that sweet red bike.

"Akira" was in fact the watershed to anime not just for people in the U.S. but all over the world. This was the most influential anime and it continues to astound fans old and new.

But my pick for greatest anime is a small film called "Graveyard of the Fireflies." It tells the story about survival between 2 siblings set during World War II in Japan. Pretty simple, no? Without ruining plot details, this has got to be the most emotional film (animated or live) I have ever seen. Never have I realized that a collection of paper and ink can really crush your heart. There were times while watching the film, I'd just like to reach out and say, "No, stop..."

A good film entertains. A great film evokes emotion be it horror, sadness, joy, anger, even hope. This anime clearly justifies that notion. Mind you, I like a lot of anime -- Naruto, Desert Punk, Rurouni Kenshin, Ranma 1/2, even (gasp!) DragonBall Z.

"Graveyard of the Fireflies" in my opinion, is the greatest anime of all time.
