Gaara

Limited control over sand.

Yea, this one's definitely gotta go to Dr. Strange. If he's serious, Gaara can't even touch him.

Let's first imagine that they're in a toe-to-toe battle. It's not difficult for Strange to create a barrier that shields him from physical harm. Some of Gaara's sand attacks certainly do pack a punch, but Strange has stood up to some pretty powerful attacks in the past. With Strange on the offensive, Gaara would have few options for defense. True, he can create a super-dense shield for himself, but it would be a mere parlor trick for the sorcerer supreme to melt or even vanish a physical barrier. Once Gaara is undefended, Strange could use any number of magical items or spells to strike at him.

Now let's look at the even more fun situation: Strange teleports far, far away from Gaara so that he's safely out of harm's way and begins to strike at his already fragile mind with a series of mental attacks. If he should ever encounter the demonic prescence inhabiting Gaara, well, I don't imagine it would be much of a problem. Somehow I think Strange has experience dealing with powerful demonic forces. So yea, this goes to the sorcerer supreme, no contest.

Dr. Strange because Gaara isn't as strong since he lost his one-tailed beast

gaara sucks

If anyone says Gaar you are completly crazy this guy has infinate power that could crush galaxies.

aww that is crap Gaara does not have limited control over sand (i guess you don't watch the show or read the manga) Gaara is the MAN! And would soooooo kick Dr.Stange's butt in a second!!

well, when you put it that way, if they were pitted in combat, Mr. Strange (I don't know who he is. I am trusting you're description) would more than likely win. If he is immortal, he can never truly die, making it impossible for gaara to win from death of his opponent. He can easily keep a fair distance from gaara and use magical attacks from a distance. Gaara is, as said in another answer, weaker and no longer has some abilities because of the extraction of the ichibi (Shukaku), although Gaara still has the deadly sand coffin and Sand burial.

Although it will be difficult, gaara has a chance to physically disable Dr. Strange much like what Shikamaru did to Hidan. He can create a sharp blade of extremely dense sand (as hard as the sphere gaara created when he first fought Sasuke in the Chuunin exam arc.). Using the blade, he can seperate Dr. Strange from his head. Dr. Strange is still unable to die, but I figure that when the head is separated from the body, the body will be unable to move.

So Gaara has a chance of winning, but he will have to think up of this particular startegy or another strategy to defeat this Dr. Strange. But Dr. Strange has great advantage over Gaara (according to your description.).

..dr.starnge
and isnt gaara a girl...?.....

...

Dr. Strange. Although I have to admit Gaara is a powerful character in his own universe, he will lose.

Dr. Strange: *Uses magic to teleport next to Gaara*
Gaara gets surprised
Dr. Strange zaps Gaara!

im picking Dr strange he would beat gaara hand's down

Dr. Strange is the Sorcerer Supreme of Marvel 656 (Number of the Beast) Universe. His goal is to protect that Universe against invasions of demons or entities from other dimensions along with dealing with evil sorcerers.

Since he is the Sorcerer Supreme , it is possible to call upon a lot of entities for great spells . One example is the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyttorak
Juggernaut has the offensive spell
Dr. Strange has the defensive Cyttorak spell!
Ok, it acts much like a "Hold Person/ Monster" effect on steroids ...

The Bands had been broken before.
By:
Possessed people
Blessed persons
Entities or 'low level Cosmic Beings' ...

Well, to be fair. If Dr. Strange carry the Soul Gem, it could be possible worst. Since, if he lost the Gem ... a person that could manipulate Ki/Chi (I think that Gaara could use "Chakra") would have a great 'spiritual' burst.

It is unlikely that a "good" person would use the powers of the Soul Gem, after all it is a 'vampire Gem' that could drain the life/soul of a person trapping them into the inner Realm of the Gem. Ok, also works similarly to the Phoenix, except that when Phoenix kill someone the "soul" will be send to the Realm of Death (Phoenix is one of the few that seems able to 'direct talk' with Death) ...
If someone (able to use spiritual attacks) get the Gem, probably the possessor of this artifact would turn into a S Class Demon or Entity!

(Other users, their posted about "Gaara" lost of the 'beast'. In this case, what is the deal about this encounter? Dr. Strange deal with demoniac entities (invoking the powers of others, even his enemies to fight back the magic) ...
In fact, the "spells" aren't from 'Stephen'.
Example:
"The Shield of the Seraphim"
Crimson Bands of Cyttorak
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Stra...
A lot of the black/dark spells and books are from demons too.
)

[Are people thinking about a person that possess the Soul Gem or about a Soul Gem that Possessed a person !?
The Soul Gem was corrupting Adam Warlock, and Adam Warlock is the "perfect human being". Created to be the perfect man (spiritually and mentally, including the DNA and golden skin) ... Turning Warlock into Magus, later the Infinity Gauntlet (six Infinity Gems together) recreated Magus and generate a new personality the "Goddess" ...

Possessed Doctor Strange.
Into this scenario, probably Gaara would have a bad time (possessed individuals are "evil"). Later he would beat doctor Strange (Don't mistake with The Strange from the Phoenix and X-Men tales) and maybe try to find some way to freed more demons ... leaving space for a re-match with the Sorcerer Supreme and the defeat of Gaara. This could turn into a nice story!
