It basically means it's not going to continue more than it has. This probably due the fact the editor of the story believes that the plot is not elaborate enough or the characters are not developed. It is a short what the heck-why not? kind of thing.

a one shot is just a quick story that has a beginning middle, and end. It can be as long as you want but it only has one chapter.
It's basically a comic that only lasts a chapter or two. It's basically a really short story with absolutely no intention of a sequel.

A One shot is basically a story containing only a single chapter
(In Short, its a One-Chapter Story)....
One shots are fun coz they usually humorous stories with nice endings or something along the lines...
I'm pretty sure the origin of the term "one-shot" in this respect comes from table-top RPGs. While your typical group will play campaigns that last months, a one-shot is a game designed to be done in a single, normal-length session.
