Question: so if the earth benders can also bend metal-
the fire benders can bend lightning-
water benders can bend blood-
then what would the extra bend be for air??

I have thought about that myself.
Although, the air benders wouldn't use it they should be able to pull all the air away from someone and suffocate them.
If they were able to control it on a very fine scale they should be able to pull all the air away from a fire bender's body so that they couldn't fire bend unless they were on par with Iroh and could do the whole dragon breath thing.

Hmmmm...... Well, Air Benders can use their air bending to move rocks, fend off fire, fend off water, and Sokka!!! LOL. They can do more with their bending then any other bender. In other words, they don't need any extra bending.
I rekkon its got something to do with the spirit world, cos they were monks.
And the waterbenders secondary ability isnt blodd bending, thats just another type of waterbending, they're second ability is healing.
