What is the anime Bleach about?!

Question: I don't like Bleach-it's a show about witchcraft. I'm a bit confused-what is it about? I thought it was about people slaying monsters-what does swordfighting have to do with slaying monsters?

Bleach follows the lives of Ichigo Kurosaki, who is a high school student with the ability to see ghosts, and a shinigami (Soul Reaper or, literally, "death god") named Rukia Kuchiki, who crosses paths with Ichigo while hunting an evil spirit known as a hollow. Rukia is wounded during the ensuing confrontation with the spirit and is left with no choice but to transfer her powers into Ichigo. Thus the adventures of Ichigo and Rukia begin. Together they search for hollows and perform soul burials on wayward souls, cleansing the spirits and sending them to Soul Society. The early parts of the story focus mainly on the characters and their pasts, rather than the actual occupation of the shinigami. As events unfold, the story begins to delve deeper into the world of these gods of death on the "other side" called Soul Society.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bleach_(man...

Bleach is not a show about witchcraft!!
Its about souls, the good ones and the bad ones that live among us in the real world.
If a person with alot of spirit energy dies and thier soul moves on their is a chance he/she may become a soul reaper / death god and they carry swords called Zanpaktou they fight against evil souls called Hollows to exorcise and release the tormented spirit. they also help good spirits called wholes move on to the soul society.
It is a great show wit a really good story it is the second best anime i ever watched... DBZ is #4-life
(Dragonball z)

Actually, it's not witchcraft. It's more of a traditional Japanese way of viewing death.
Shinigami's ( the characters ) are death gods, while their zanpakuto ( the sword ), is more of a quirk to give the story some flavor and imagination.
And so the writer makes up this story about beings called hollows coming to earth and eating people's souls, and it's up to the death gods to save the souls and bring them to soul society ( a take on heaven ). It's definitely not cult-ish, and it wouldn't really consider as witchcraft.

Ichigo Kurosaki was a high school student with the ability to see ghosts, and Rukia Kuchiki, a shinigami (Soul Reaper). The early parts of the story focus mainly on the characters. Later they talk about gods of death.

All the characters in bleach is souls not human. They get artificial human bodies. But human world is just like modern japan. Ichigo went to normal highschool until he saw Rukia, who was surprised that ichigo had the ability to see ghosts.

Characters other than Ichigo and Rukia are the captains.

u must really be confuse if u think bleach is about witchcraft. It's about a boy with shinigami (death god) powers eventhough he's human and how he fights to protect the people/soul etc that are important to him. The shinigami in bleach fights with their swords that each have their own special ability. The shinigami also have the ability to use kidou to fight which is a magical spell.

ok, there's no point in answering this because 5 ppl answered it before me but anyway i guess i will...
Its not about witchcraft ITS ABOUT SOULS OR SPIRITS AND SOUL REAPERS. it has nothing to do with witches....omg you must hate harry potter alot

WOW!
bleach is no way an anime about witchcraft, there is no spells, no magic, its basically about souls, spirits and soul reapers, its basically how that japanese perceive death at least used to, and as for the fact that you are christian, i am catholic and i think the rules of the catholic church are stricter that christian, i see no problem in the anime what so ever

How can you watch any anime or read manga then? You gotta realize that most of what is on the shelves in our country has to do with magic, ninjas, werewolves, vampires, etc and I am sure that you call that witchcraft too.

What anime can you watch? Even the school dramas, romance and comedys have things that are against your religion: underage sex, sex before marriage, homosexuality, ghosts, magic, religions other than your own, etc...

Want to go burn some of us "satan-worshippers" at the stake cause we like anime and manga that have a little bit of fantasy in it? How small minded are you? Anything that isnt a part of your religion must be wrong. You cant even keep an open mind. You dont believe in witchcraft (your opinion) but you can believe in some all powerful super being? Man I hate relgious nut balls...

dude all i can say is its wiked awsome
and no its actually not about witchcraft
its about them using their spirits and stuff to fight
but idk yet since i havent watched it all i onkly got to episode 52 lol

its not really about witchcraft. its about heaven and hell really. its about a boy who has the ability to become a death god. (not a god at all just a name) he sends good souls to heaven and the bad ones to hell (so to speak). he only does this to souls that remain behind when they shouldn't. some of these bad souls merge with other bad ones and become the monsters that you see. he fights them to protect the good and the weak. i didn't think i would like it at first but it really took when i watched a few episodes. give it a try and you might like it.
