Full Moon wo Sagashite, Mermaid Melody, and Tokyo Mew Mew are REALLY good anime/mangas! You get very into it! They are my all time favorite anime/mangas!
Here are descriptions of them!
Full Moon wo Sagashite: A twelve year old girl named Mitsuki dreams of becoming a famous singer but she has throat cancer which makes that dream impossible. But when two death spirits named Takuto & Meroko come and tell her she has one year to live she asks Takuto to do something for her. To turn her into a sixteen year old so she can pursue her dream. In her sixteen year old body Mitsuki is healthy and she becomes the famous singer Full Moon.
Mermaid Melody: The Pink Pearl Mermaid Princess Luchia must go to the human world to find her sacred pearl she gave to a boy she met 7 years ago. After getting her pearl back she must find the 6 other mermaid princesses to help reawaken Aqua Regina so she can save the undersea world and the human world from the evil Gaito.
Tokyo Mew Mew: 5 ordinary girls get infused with the DNA of 5 endangered animals. They must use their new powers to defend the Earth from the aliens that are trying to take Earth as their own.
OK, before you get barraged by everyone saying Naruto, post which ones you have seen. And I would say Rurouni Kenshin and Full Metal Alchemist (FMA)
I highly suggest watching Naruto. Naruto in my opinion is one of the best anime/manga ever so far. I defiantly think is has lived up to the hype about it. The show has a interesting plot with very good art and charter drawing. The show includes action/comedy/romance and drama Here what the show is about. It is about a boy named Naruto who is an orphan and has a demon spirt fox in him that was put there when he was born. Later on Naruto finds friends that like him of who he is. He has made a decision be become the greatest ninja in his village (the village hidden in the leaves), he wants to become hokage, but in order to do that he must train like he never has before as well has battle through missions and interesting foes with his friends and learning new moves/jutsu (speail fighting moves) and marial arts. In between all this there are relationships between charcters. Naruto is defiantly a series/show/manga that defiantly worth getting into and is one good epic story.

Twelve years before the events at the focus of the series, the nine-tailed demon fox attacked Konohagakure. It was a powerful demon indeed; a single swing of one of its nine tails would raise tsunamis and flatten mountains. It raised chaos and slaughtered many people, until the leader of the Leaf Village – the Fourth Hokage – defeated it by sacrificing his own life to seal the demon inside a newly-born child, whose origins are as yet unknown. That child's name was Naruto Uzumaki. The Fourth Hokage was celebrated as a hero for sealing the demon fox away. He wanted Naruto to be respected in a similar light by being the containment vessel for the demon fox. The village he grew up in, however, mostly shunned Naruto; they regarded him as if he were the demon fox itself and mistreated him throughout most of his childhood. A decree made by the Third Hokage made it so that the other villagers were forbidden to mention the event to anyone, even to their own children. However, this did not stop them from treating Naruto like an outcast. Although their children did not specifically know why their parents treated Naruto the way they did, they learned through example to despise the boy. As a result, Naruto grew up as an orphan in a lonesome atmosphere without friends, family, or acknowledgment.
All in all it has everything you could want out of anime/manga including action/romance/drama/and comdy.

THIS IS SO EASY AND I love you because I love to answer this question! Sailor Moon and Inuyasha! If you go to veoh.com and download veoh tv, you can watch almost EVERY Inuyasha episode. Trust me, at first I thought Inuyasha was kinda ehhh, but now that I've watched all the episodes I'm SO in love with it! And Sailor Moon (If you're a girl) you will LOVE! It's the best anime EVER. If you want any episodes of Sailor Moon, I will give you a site where you can download them for free and any episodes you can't get, I have pretty much all of them. Also, manga for Sailor Moon and Inuyasha aren't that hard to find either. Just let me know!

Fruits Basket is pretty good, lots of drama. I also like Digi Charat, its so kawaii.
I say Bleach, Naruto, FMA, Blood+, Scrapped Princess, and Death Note.
Watch them. I highly suggest Naruto though. Yes, I'm one of the people who say it all the time like the first guy mentioned. But it has an interesting plot, storyline, characters, character background, fighting style, etc. Watch it. It's not the most popular manga/anime for nothing you know.
Bleach is basically the same as Naruto. It's also one of the most popular anime/manga too.
Death Note, one of the few shounen animes that doesn't involve fighting but you still are drawn into it so much.
Blood+, I'm not too far into this anime but it seems good. Confusing at times, but good.
Scrapped Princess. This is really good. It's about a princess who is the poison to the world and is wanted dead by everyone but by the people who found her. On her 16 birthday she is to destroy the world. She makes the story so funny by demanding stuff like she was a princess but in reality, she was disowned the moment she was born by being thrown off a cliff. She was saved though and now is a you could say foster child. Watch this. It is really good.
FMA: It's short for Fullmetal Alchemist. This is just unique. It was never finished though in the anime.
So just watch these. I promise you won't regret it at all!!!
