How did Near(and Mello) defeat Light Yagami at the end of Deathnote?!

Since I only read the manga, this is what I can tell you:
On the day Kiyomi Takada the news reporter died, both Light and Mikami acted the same coincidentally - Teru Mikami took out his Death Note and wrote that Takada will die in a fire, and Light wrote the same thing on a piece of Death Note paper hidden in his watch.
Near's agents found out Mikami's abnormalities, because he actually went to the bank's safe twice - the day before, and on that day. They suspected that Mikami's Death Note were actually hidden in the safe (and not the one he normally used - that was a fake), and stole it and replaced it with a fake Death Note that was copied from the original.
On the meeting day, Near let Mikami see all faces and let him write their names on the fake Death Note he brought along with him. As stated by Near many times during the meeting, they would not die and never did. Mikami merely wrote all people's names except Light, who was a Death Note owner (remember, Death Note's owners will not have their ages written on them), and it proved the crimes.
Mello, although he didn't help much in Near's investigations, actually helped greatly to reveal Mikami's true habit and the real location of his original Death Note. Near himself said it; if he and Mello worked together, they could surpass L.
I don't know if Misa really died, because when Light was about to reach his death and called Misa, Near said that Misa was staying in a hotel. =^_^=
