Full Moon wo Sagashite, Mermaid Melody, Ouran High School Host Club, and Tokyo Mew Mew are REALLY good anime/mangas! You get very into it! They are my all time favorite anime/mangas!
Here are descriptions of the shows!
Full Moon wo Sagashite: A twelve year old girl named Mitsuki dreams of becoming a famous singer but she has throat cancer which makes that dream impossible. But when two death spirits named Takuto & Meroko come and tell her she has one year to live she asks Takuto to do something for her. To turn her into a sixteen year old so she can pursue her dream. In her sixteen year old body Mitsuki is healthy and she becomes the famous singer Full Moon.
Mermaid Melody: The Pink Pearl Mermaid Princess Luchia must go to the human world to find her sacred pearl she gave to a boy she met 7 years ago. After getting her pearl back she must find the 6 other mermaid princesses to help reawaken Aqua Regina so she can save the undersea world and the human world from the evil Gaito.
Ouran HighSchool Host Club: A girl named Haruhi gets a scholorship to the prestigious Ouran private High School. Since she is a commaner she cannot afford the school uniform and resorts to wearing slacks & polo shorts. Combined with the fact that she has short tousled hair and large glasses she is mistaken for a boy. Looking for a quiet place to study Haruhi walks into the Third Music Room only to find the Ouran Host Club. While in the room Haruhi accidentaly knocks over a vase worth $80,000 so the Host Club (Thinking she is a boy) make her a host to pay off her debt. Haruhi's real gender is revealed to all the members of the Host Club but she is allowed to continue charading as a boy to be a host as long as she dosn't reveal it to the customers.
Tokyo Mew Mew: 5 ordinary girls get infused with the DNA of 5 endangered animals. They must use their new powers to defend the Earth from the aliens that are trying to take Earth as their own.

samurai champloo- fuu,a regular girl, aske jin and mugen, to help her find the samurai that smells like sunflowers. it is hillarious. go toveoh or watch adult swim every saturday night at one. this week will be episode 2. (veoh/youtube)
ouran high school host club- average girl has to act like guy at rich kids school (high school) it is awesome in a romantic funny way. all eps on youtube
Fruits Basket- 16 year old orphan Tohru Honda moves into a tent on one of her classmate's(Yuki Sohma) property. She then moves in with him and his cousins Kyo and Shigure and becomes their housekeeper. Along the way, she learns about a curse that Yuki's family lives with. Whenever they are hugged, stressed, or ill they transform into animals of the Chinese Zodiac. After Tohru learns about that she's determined to break the curse once and for all.
Ouran High School Host Club- poor student Haruhi Fujioka wants a quiet place to study. So, she goes to a music room. When she goes inside, she meets the Host Club(a club where rich gentlemen who have free time entertain rich ladies who also have free time) and accidently breaks an $80,000(in U.S. money) vase, she must make up a debt by becoming a member of the club. Though, she must keep her identity a secret from the girls.

inuyasha= a teen year age girl falls down a well into a different world and meets new friends and even a dog boy that she falls in love with.
bleach= a teen year age boy that can see spirits meets a girl that is a soul reaper that defeats bad souls. she gives her powers to the boy and he turns out to be more powerful then most soul reapers.
i like all of these they come on adult swim and u should watch them they r really good.

Naruto, or Claymore
Everyone of my picks someone has already wrote something about.
But if you like romance then FRUITS BASKET is the one you should watch. It is one of my all time favorites. But the anime is really short and the manga goes all the way to the end. You would absolutely LOVE the ending.
BLEACH and NARUTO are the main two animes in America right now. These are the ones I am currently watching and so far they are really, really good. They are action/ comedy with some heart felt moments.
DEATH NOTE is a mystery and really makes you have to think. It is a mystery and makes you think about moral and ethical issues. (sounds boring, but it really isnt. It is actually really INTENSE)
BLOOD + is also good, it is only 50 episodes. It is action, and romance. It's got a good story line.
One that I didn't notice on anyones list is INUYASHA. You would fall in love with the main characters. Kagome Higurashi is a modern day young girl who lives with her family by the old Higure shrine. Unbeknownst to Kagome, she is the reincarnation of priestess Kikyo and possesses the "Jewel of Four Souls" (the Shikon jewel). One ill-fated day, Kagome locates an ancient well near her home and is abruptly transported through the well and into a feudal Japan, inhabited by demons. There, she encounters Inuyasha, son of a powerful demon father and a human mother, who is pinned to a tree by an enchanted arrow.
Kagome frees Inuyasha from the tree before she learns that all of the demons, including Inuyasha, are after the Shikon jewel in her possession. To prevent the jewel from being stolen, Kagome accidentally shoots it with the enchanted arrow, shattering it into thousands of pieces. The evil Naraku also seeks the jewel for his own reasons. New allies, Kagome and Inuyasha, join forces with Shippo, a small fox-demon, Miroku, a monk, and Sango, the sole surviving demon-hunter, in order to combat Naraku and recover the fragments of the "Jewel of Four Souls". But that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Oh yah, if you havent watched COWBOY BEBOP, you have to, it is a classic.
Okay expanding on Inuyasha as much as possible here's the basic story! 15 year old Kagome Higurashi is pulled down the well on her shrine by a demon who wants the jewel of four souls hidden in her body. She finds herself 500 years in the past during the feudal era of Japan. She sees a young teen looking boy attached to a tree by a sacred arrow. She is being followed until she has to get help from the boy who wakes up who calls her Kikyo. She figures her only choice is to free the boy and live to save herself. The jewel is taken out of her body and carried off. As she learns more about the boy she finds out he is a half dog demon named inuyasha who was sealed to the tree for fifty years and that kikyo is the one who did it. She also finds out that she s the re-incarnation of the priestess and has inherited her spiritual powers. To resce the jewel she tries to shoot the thing carrying it but breaks the jewel into a million pieces with her arrow. Learning that she can sense the sacred jewel shards, the local priestess, kayade(kikyo's younger sister who is much older) makes them pair up to find them. Over the period of a couple weeks, Kagome and Inuyasha find inuyasha's older brother sesshomaru, a young fox demon named shippo, a monk named miroku, a demon slayer named sango, and ultimately Nuraku and his incarnations their ultimate enemy. Over this period of time Kagome realizes her love for inuyasha and tries to keep up in the feudal and her own era where a guy named hojo likes Kagome. That's the basic story for now!
Peach Girl is good. It has romance and a lot of drama.
Absolute Boyfriend is a good manga too, it's about Riiko who ordered a robot boyfriend online and Night becomes her perfect "boyfriend." It causes a love triangle among her, Night and Soshi (her childhood friend who liked her for a long time). It's romantic, funny and the art is gorgeous.
I also like Aishiteruze Baby, a cute manga about Kippei who has to take care of his 5 year old cousin Yuzuyu.
Death Note- A boy finds a note book that kills whoever he writes in it
Moeyo Ken- A comedy about the Shinsengumi police who protect people and monsters and normally end up screwing things up. And a boy who travels with nekomaru.
Vampire Knight- A manga about a girl who has to keep order between the day class of her school(humans) and the night class (vampires)
Blood+- A girl finds out that she is special and travels to fight chiropterans and others like her.
Trinity Blood- An apocalyptic war between humans and vampires
Cowboy Bebop- Futuristic show about bounty hunters, funny at some times, sad, and action
Bleach- A boy has to fight evil spirits (hollows)
And Inuyasha but I can see that a lot of people have already told you almost the whole story so I don't want to ruin it further for you.

trinity blood:Earth's population drastically increased, humanity attempted to colonize Mars. During the colonization, they discovered two alien technologies: the Bacillus and the Crusnik nanomachines. The colonists installed the Bacillus in their bodies which transformed them into Methuselahs. They installed the Crusnik in the bodies of four test tube babies: Seth, Cain, Abel and Lilith whose enhanced bodies were the only ones able to survive the procedure.
tsubasa chronicle:its about a girl who losts her memories in the form of feathers now a boy named sharon who is going to get those feathers back but he have to sacrifice his feelings for the girl
