Why do cartoon characters look hidious and deformed?!

you can't use the 'big eyes in anime' comeback cuz donald duck and Garfield have big eyes. spikey hair, japanese ppl have spiky hair, and many of them dye their hair pink or green.
long story short, anime is STYLIZED. cartoons are super ugly.

I've wondered that, too. They're so much uglier than when I was young. Is it because animators are getting lazier?
It is the artist style of drawing and the demographics it is aimed at: children.
I think its to show the differences in people. And yes I like anime better myself, but I'm not going to knock other cartoons.

ok, yes anime is way better... but that doesnt mean that every single one is awesome!! (though most are...)
have you seen bobo bobo and papuwa?? those are anime and the art sucks!!
why are anime characters eyes so big?? (i know...innocence and all....) and whats up with chibi's?? (even though they are super cute...)

I wonder why they don't affect the kids that watch... surely they'd have nightmares if a real life person with a massive kidney shaped head and teeny arms and legs walked up to them in school...
its just the artists style of drawing i guess.but if you keep watching the cartoons after a long period of time u can notice the art actually gets better with some characters
Not everyone draws the same and besides, I don't think there's anything wrong with being different. I am a fellow anime fan, but I think you are a little close-minded. Look, not every American cartoon is going to look like anime. I don't see anything wrong with the way American cartoons are. Have you seen the anime characters when they're chibi sized? They are super deformed, so why are you bashing American animation?

I don't know. I guess they try and make them look funny,because most American cartoons suck. Anime is much better and at least is creative and has a plot/story. As well as action and things you haven't seen before. Unlike American cartoons were it's just one boring/lame show after another.

i think maybe because only kids are supposed to watch them. i have no idea though because kids in japan watch anime of course and the anime that is for kids have no seriously deformed people like there are in american cartoons! anime is so much better and the people are so much more normal!
my mom always uses that "anime has big eyes" thing and it really annoys me! i mean have you seen other cartoons?! big eyes are practically NOTHING compared to what you see in cartoons!

adds complexity to a character, venture bros is an example were the characters are proportioned wihtout looking bad, same with alot of adult swim cartoons, my problem with anime is how many caucasain kids are there in asia that can speak japanese and have a fucked up color of hair?, and somehow they stumble apon some antient card game, or something, well if that were to happen the fate of the world wouldnt be in the hands of some girly little boy . **** anime (except akira, and astroboy)
