Question: I used to watch it a long time ago but I can't think of the title. It involves a group of Earth-defending mecha pilots and the three main characters are a red-haired girl that pilots a helicopter mecha, a blond guy piloting a tank mecha (he dies at the end :( ) and a rebel-type dark haired guy that pilots a jeep mecha. Their boss was a tall military type who always wore sunglasses.

It's most probably be "Tokusou Kihei Dorvack" / "Special Armored Battalion Dorvack". It first aired from 1983 to 1984.
Masato (Makoto?) Mugen is the hot blooded dark haired guy that piloted the VV-54 AR Mugen Calibur variable jeep.
Pierre Bonaparte is the cool blond guy that piloted the VT-61 LC Bonaparte Tulcas variable tank.
Louise Oberon is the swift red haired girl that piloted the VH-64 MR Oberon Gazzette variable helicopter.
Colonel Takashiro was their commander.
I once had a toy of the VT-61 LC Bonaparte Tulcas, but due the fact it never transform fully into humanoid form, I thought that it was broken!
