Oh, hun, you SO need to watch Naruto. You can't say you've watched anime until you've watched Naruto! (Well, technically, you can, but...) The main characters are the blonde haired, whiskered boy named Naruto, who has the Nine-Tailed demon sealed inside him.
Basically the story is about ninjas, from all over the world, but mainly where Naruto is from-Konoha, the Leaf village.
Other main characters are Naruto's teammates: Sakura the pink-haired girl who likes Sasuke, Naruto's other teammate, who has a mysterious aura around him and is very good-looking. And Kakashi, their sensei.
There's too many other characters to name, but you should definitely see the anime/read the manga.
Naruto is boy who has a demon fox sealed inside of him. Everybody except Naruto knows he has a fox sealed inside of him. He's casted out by the villages becaus eof what the fox did to the village. He goes to school at ninja academy and wishes to be Hokage(leader of the leaf village).
Chakra is minipulated as powers. Different clans have different hidden/special abilites.
There are alot of characters the main ones are Naruto, Sakura, Sasuke, kakashi senei, the third hokage and Iruka sensei.
If i say anything else i'll ruin the whole story line for you.
It's worth watching. So go for it
This anime is mostly about ninjas, you may learn something from what the characters tell you later. Naruto is really popular lately since it has been shown almost throughout the world, including the US. As for why, maybe you need to "enter" the world of Naruto before you decide to like it, or not.
Since Naruto is very popular it was recommended to watch it. However the animation quality differs each week, so if you like consistently good-quality anime this is not suitable for you.
The story is about Naruto Uzumaki, a blond boy with whisker marks on his face and wears orange - a ninja who wanted to achieve his dream of becoming the leader of his village. The village - Konohagakure no Sato (Hidden Leaf Village) / Konoha - has a leader who is a ninja with the highest skill and ability, called Hokage (Fire Shadow). Naruto admires the Fourth Hokage (Yondaime Hokage / Yondaime) / the 4th, who once saved the village from a demon called Kyuubi no Yoko (Nine-tailed Fox Demon) / Kyuubi, and therefore he wanted to be just like him.
He will later be partnered with these people:
1. Sasuke Uchiha - he's a genius from a noble Uchiha clan, and was the only member left after the clan was massacred a few years ago. He has black hair and eyes, and likes to wear dark blue shirt / black ones, and wears his clan symbol - a white-and-red fan. Since he's smarter than Naruto, he likes to call Naruto "moron" (in Japanese, "usuratonkachi").
2. Sakura Haruno - you can easily recognize her pink hair. She wears red shirt with a white circle symbol on the back of her shirt. Naruto likes her, but she likes Sasuke.
3. Kakashi Hatake - this guy wears a black / dark blue mask covering his nose and mouth, and has his left eye covered, and has white / grey hair. He's the teacher of Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke.
These 4 - including Naruto as the title character, are the main characters.
4. Iruka Umino - a tanned teacher with dark hair tied in a ponytail and has a long scar across his nose. This is Naruto's father figure, and he likes to treat Naruto into ramen, which Naruto likes the most.
5. Shikamaru Nara - his hair is dark and tied like Iruka's but he has no scar and looks younger. This is one of Naruto's close friends.
6. Chouji Akimichi - the fat boy with spiral mark on his cheek, and eats a lot. He's Shikamaru's best friend, and is also Naruto's close friend. He hates being called "fat".
7. Ino Yamanaka - A blond-haired girl with a bit sexy appearance. She is Sakura's best friend and love rival, since she also likes Sasuke.
8. Asuma Sarutobi - he's Shikamaru, Chouji and Ino's team leader and teacher. A good-looking guy with beard.
9. Hinata Hyuuga - heiress of the honorable Hyuuga clan. She's extremely shy, and admires Naruto very much. She has short, dark purple hair with somewhat white eyes.
10. Kiba Inuzuka - this guy has a white dog with him. Another friend of Naruto.
11. Shino Aburame - if you see a boy with dark glasses, it's him. Naruto seems to dislike his attitudes.
12. Kurenai Yuuhi - Team leader of Hinata, Kiba and Shino. She has a love affair with Asuma.
13. Neji Hyuuga - Hinata's cousin. He has long, dark brown hair and white eyes. At first he hated Hinata and her family due to some family grudges, but it was later solved and Neji became better.
14. Rock Lee / Lee - this guy is somewhat "strange" >_> He has a bowl-like haircut, and with thick eyebrows.
15. Tenten - She's one good female fighter compared with others in the beginning.
16. Maito Gai / Gai ("Maito Gai" is a pun on English phrase "Might Guy") - Team leader and teacher of Neji, Lee and Tenten. Lee's appearance and fashion style is influenced by this man, some might say that they are father-and-son when actually they aren't.
17. Jiraiya - Naruto's new teacher after Kakashi. He has long, white hair and is a super pervert (he claimed it, not me). He's the author of Kakashi's favourite erotic novel, Icha Icha Paradise.
18. Tsunade - Sakura's new teacher after Kakashi. She has blond hair tied into two tails and has a diamond-shaped mark on her forehead. Friend of Jiraiya, and is now a Hokage.
19. Orochimaru - a pale-skinned guy with long, black hair and is able to stretch his body D: Former partner of Jiraiya and Tsunade, now an enemy. Sasuke's new teacher, after several occassions.
These are second main characters, and are there mostly to assist the main ones.
There are too many characters that needed to be introduced since the first episode; if you really want to know more about them then watch the anime from the beginning or read the manga from beginning. Telling all of them is like introducing hundreds of characters at the same time. >_>
