That's Kon. He's the mod soul who they saved and they keep him in a stuffed toy lion. Doesn't make much sense does it, I've only read some of the manga, so I can't be so sure.
He's like, an artificial fighting spirit which the soul reapers used as an experiment, they planned to use it by putting the mod soul into bodies and they would have special talents (Kon has strong legs) but they scrapped that idea and destroyed all the mod souls, just Kon survived it somehow.

That is Kon. A mod sol that was made wrong. When Rukia gave Ichigo some mod sol tablets to take when he has to be a shinugami when Rukia is not around. The mod sol then took Ichigo's body but they vaught him and since Ichigo pitied the mod sol he placed it in a body of an old lion looking stuff toy.

They put this green tiny ball into him. which has a 'soul' inside of it. hehe that openings really dar back for me so i don't know that much anymore.
funny, perverted mod soul named Kon. He is specially attracted 2 ladies with large "valleys" such as orihime & matsumoto. He doesnt appear much in the anime/manga.
