The manga is hand-drawn. It's just like a comic, except it's from Japan. The anime although, is not. it's made like any other cartoon, except it follows the plot of the manga. It's animated on the computer.

From what I've noticed, most anime is 'limited animation' rather than 'full animation'.

Full animation is hand drawn frame by frame...using a different drawing for every half second of film.

Limited animation was not created by, but revolutionized by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera in the 50s and 60s and became their standard in the 70s.

Limited animation is a cost saving technique where, say, one head is drawn of the character...that head is what is called a 'held frame'...it doesn't move...then the animator animates the eyes and mouth to give the illusion that it's fully animated.

Although, now most anime is created on a computer and it makes the whole process a lot easier.
