What can I do, as a 14 year old, to prepare myself for a job in video game/anime!

Question: Do not post without reading the whole question. I hate morons that do that.

All right. So, I'm 14 years old, and I'm looking to go into a career with either anime or video games, more specifically, writing storylines and such for them.

The only thing is, I'm having a hard time finding things to do to practice for a job like that. I try writing, but it never comes out the way I want people to see it-that's why I'm interested in a career like this, so people can actually SEE what I'm trying to portray. I've never gotten anywhere with drawing-I've tried all the tips of just drawing from my favorite anime and the like, but it never seems to get me anywhere. The drawing style I first learned, I'm unable to get past the faces. But anytime I try to draw from memory, I revert to that style. And it's funny, cause I can see exactly what to draw and how to draw it in my end-but I go to put it on paper, and my mind goes blank. I also have an unnatural nack with creating AMV's. (Continued)

First off, Hockey god and Mr. Queer are faggots. I cringed when i read both those answers, anime is awesome and I hate HaTe HATE when people say that a job is just a hobby or not a real job at all. A person can be whatever the heck they want to be! (I wanna be an author, and I've had plenty of people try to tell me that it isn't a real job 'hello! if it isn't a job then why are there so many books/video games/animes/mangas, huh? jeez -ok rants over, on to the question!-

I would suggest that you take some classes in writing, art, or computer animation and such. If you haven't had that opportunity yet it should come junior/senior year or maybe in college, if not, you can always take night classes. Practice is key, and you have to be ready for opposition and struggle. just be determined and it helps if you love what you do.

Don't think your art/writing is bad, never throw out something you've drawn or writen, it can be used to help improve yourself. start with the easy stuff, and as time moves on you'll get better. see if you can find another person with similar ideals that you can trade work and offer constructive criticism with. that would be a big help too.

more likely than not, you'll have to get a second job at first, so at least be ready for that(you may not have to, who knows but its best to be prepared)

if you search on the internet there are a lot of programs to start with that are free or for a minor fee. like i said, you really need to practice, and don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't do it. Good luck, I know where you've been- trust me.

here is a site that you can post writing on for reviews:
http://fanfiction.net (for fanfictions only)
http://www.fictionpress.com/ (for anything else)

and your can go here to post art( assuming that you have a scanner, that is)
http://www.deviantart.com

hope this helps!

take course in it, you'll gain more experince

dont do it

just practice working

british royal guy is the queer don listen to him i like anime to but u should keep practiceing they send a comic strip or chapter to a company who makes them and maybe thelly like it an hire u and ull become famous

Well, just practice first.

There are countries that offers animation and game design courses, such as Japan and Singapore.

You may also take short courses.

Or you can first practice 2D animation using Flash.

Ok, so you see those commercials on TV about the tech classes where they draw the images on paper and then they draw them on the computer. Well, what you need to do is draw those images out on paper as best as you can. I took a Computer Graphics class in 10th grade, and we learned how to draw stuff then scan it onto the computer and colour it in. see if you can take that class in high school. They teach some pretty great stuff you wouldn't learn if you didn't take the class. And maybe you should try that a few times with different drawings. We had to learn to edit the drawings on the computer and everything. We used Mac computers that had this painting program on there where we could edit and do other things and we also used Photoshop. They help. And those are the first steps I believe besides planning everything out. I hope that helped some. And I hope your career turns out great!!

You could try to locate some companies that do that kind of work and see if you can get an internship with them. Try to call someone from the company and talk to them. You will have somethings in common to talk about so try to prepare some good questions for them, unless they are very mean, they will probably like that you showed some interest and at least give you some advice, and maybe even help you to get hired.

first of all i wanted to be a anime wrighter for a long time and i even wrote my own book when i was 15 im 23 now and i still think anime is cool but i wouldent dare doing it for a living before you take any major steps wich you cant do untill ur 18 anyways think about it their is no garentee that you can make it, it might not be the best path. but i can answer your question. the best way of doing so is to just find a magaziene most likely a anime one and subscribe to it and send pictures or storys in their are alot of people who read those things and if ur any good somone will call u up and sponcer u right away

I know this is a dumb answer but just practice. I draw anime/manga and I know that the only way to get better is to draw every day (almost) and draw the things you're worst at. Take some classes too. You'll get better ;) If that gets you nowhere you could team up with someone with mad drawing skills and you could write and give them ideas of what you want them to draw. Also publish your work on the Internet and show people it.

If you want to be great at something do it every day. Anime is an Artform. keep ahead of the game by watching the style people are using. What is popular and what will be popular. Then take that in and start to delvope your own style. write everyday and perhaps start a blog online to get feedback on your work. no one got ahead following. Do your own thing and continue to develop on it every day. To be perfectly honest to become successful in writing or Anime is extremely hit or miss. Learn to program, become conformable in programming and you will open a lot of doors in game design and more importantly stability in job market. Java is a good place to start and will lead you into the world of programming.

draw! keep drawing. Ive had the same problem becoming stuck at the faces and repeating the same style and feeling like you are not making any progress. Try to get loose. do form and motion practice. Loose lines and just get it on paper. think less about how the final product will look and more about motion. Anime is all about capturing motion in drawing. get loose! draw and restate draw and restate. just get that graphite on the paper. and the rest will work its way out over time.

You give up because anime is for queers.

those are just in the end hobbies, you need to consider REAL jobs that pay.
