Well most people should realize that in anime everything is exagerated. Even the violence of what you call "Child abuse". What would knock a normal person out only causes a bump on the characters head.
And plus NOBODY IS THINKING ABOUT THAT WHEN THEY WATCH!! Unless of course they are showing the suffering a character had to go through.
And hitting someone is not abuse. Beating the crap out of them for no fuckin reason is.

that's actually an ignorant opinion. it's completely one-sided. no one thinks of child abuse when watching anime. also, that kind of stuff happens maybe 10% of the time. it's the same as videogames and people wanting to ban them. why would you ban a videogame just for violence or sexual content? for every videogame like that, ther are 1,000 porns or r-rated movies. keep an open mind.

One thing to remember about anime: It is from Japan. Over there, there's actually a difference between discipline and child abuse. Also, in war, an enemy is an enemy, no matter the age. Keeping this philosophy in mind, it isn't unreasonable at all for this depiction, as in most cases in these series, they're either training with adults or actually defending their family, village, personal honor, or whatever other reason the battle is in regards to -- all valid reasons to attack an opponent of any age.
