The reason i dont think hed end up like itachi, its because he has the mark of his clan that would forbid him to attack his fellow main branchers. The second is that itachi went beserk with power because of the mayentou sharingan unlike neji.
I think that's why they made Neji lose Naruto because they would of been like 100% match of the same Charicter
