Anime is by far better than cartoons, the animation that the japanese come up is amazing yet weird lol. Its true that american animators are copying japanese for example avatar. that's what i think.
Without a doubt anime is way better. Honestly how can anybody put Ef A tale of Memories in the same category as something like Family Guy?
anime. at first i was in love with cartoons(when i was around 4&&5) but as i got a little old i began to develope a taste for animes like dbz and hamtaro. i think anime is way better because cartoons is more comedy and anime has action and romance and a bunch of different types!!! Also anime looks so cool. cartoons tries to do all the funny faces and all, but things like the big sweat drop and how their eyes get all wight .....nothing can compare to that.Anime is certainley not the same as cartoons, anime is better for anyone that thinks cartoons are childish. dont get me wrong i watch some here and there, but its mostly anime for me!
Edit::and i also think american animation is copying japanese anime. Good example avatar the last airbender. look at how its drawn and all, compared to lets say naruto. i think naruto is better by faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar!

comics and animation has been taken over by anime anyway (about 85% or so) ....
and for manga and anime to be categorized as cartoons and animation... no way.
i mean... yeah sure anime is a form of animation... but that word just doesnt do it justice. its "anime".

oh, and about that whole america copying japan thing... i think they should keep doing so. anime from japan will always be the best and all that, but we have to have SOMETHING in america that actually looks good (kinda. and im referring to animation) its not gonna look great for a long time.... but at least keep the fingers crossed that in a few years or so america will be able to come out with some great animations.
it wont be nothing like japans though. far from it. but we can at least hope....

Well, I know what you're saying, but both Japanese produced animation and American produced animation are animation.
I like both, actually. It depends much more on the individual show or movie than where it was made. I've seen some excellent American animation and some excellent Japanese animation and some excellent animation from other countries as well. I've also seen really bad American cartoons and some truly awful anime. I used to have a very strong preference, but as I got older, I realized that god animation can come from anywhere. If someone brings me a show or movie to watch and says they think I'll enjoy it, I don't first ask what country in was made in. It's fine to have a preference, but i think saying you'll only watch anme or you'll only watch American animation is as silly as saying you'll only look at French paintings or you'll only watch Spanish movies or you'll only read British books.
It seems, however, that you already have a pretty clear opinion on the subject, so I'm guessing my differing viewpoint isn't going to win your ten points. Oh well.

Actually any animation could be considered a "cartoon."
The only real distinction is Anime is strictly animation from Japan.

The Japanese did have some animation before the 1930's, but you have the almighty Walt Disney to thank for Anime as you know it!
Disney, the man and artist not the evil corporation, had a huge influence on animators around the world.
The big eyes, characteristic of Anime, were Japanese animators way of trying to imitate, Disney's work and other American animators.

It has come back around tho. While American animators failed to see the potential of Animation, the Japanese have excelled in creating beautiful animation, and have targeted more than just children.
The US has begun to catch up in many ways, but still misses the potential for it to be an art form and not just "kids stuff."
And while I do enjoy anime, not all of it is good. Actually I haven't seen a new series in a long time that has even peaked my interest!
anime/manga is so much better because the plot is so much more interesting and longer!! cartoons are like, ok, this guy get's hit and they're all laughing like morons. anime ROX!!!
