Is this where the name Kira(Death Note) originates?!

Question: Right, i was looking at some fan art the other day, and they copied out the part of one of the suicide letters that Light makes one of the prisoners write that said Killah, they commented that killer was spelt wrong but,

In Japan Ls in the middle of the word arnt usually pronounced as L, its usually an R
(E.g. Zolo becomes Zoro)
So if this were to happen to Killah, it would become Kira

Do you think this has some truth in it?

While it's possible that Kira was derived from "Kiraa" (Ki-Raa) which means "killer".

The meaning of "Kira" can also mean "light".

Other names that can mean "light" are "Akira", "Hikaru", and so on.

Now if Light Yagami is a girl, he/she should be named as Hikari Yagami! Hey, that's what in my mind when I first saw the name "Light Yagami".

Hmmm... I wondered if Light was supposed to be a girl? I mean writing names of people that one think should die using supernatural powers sound more like a girl would do than a guy (think Jigoku Shoujo, where many of the contracts were done by self righteous girls).

Too bad that Misa Amane wasn't named as Hikari Amane or Hikaru Amane or something similiar, I don't know why, I'm just not quite fond of the name "Misa".

Of course, "Ra-I-To" other than meaning "light" can also mean "right". Light is often synonymous with the devil and self righteous people ("see the light", "be illuminated", "banish evil by the light", etc).

"Ra-I-To" also rhyme with "Write" (Wu-Ra-I-To).

"Lewliet" sounded quite similiar to "Rewrite", perharps to do redo what "Write" have done?

Of course there are words that rhyme with "Light" that might be related to the story, like "night", "fight", "flight", "sight", and so on.

That's all for tonight, I got plenty things to write and to do right, that maybe at this night I might have a good sight.

Kira just comes from Killer. Its the way its pronounced in japanese and it comes from Light Killing criminals.

well, i dont think that that was the complete reason why light was "kira".... remember, it wasnt Light that came up with the name. it was the people who did. he just decided to use it afterwards... so he had nothing to do with calling his "evil self" (as i like to say it =]) kira.

though, i also dont think that its coincidence that the creator used the name kira, which (spoken by a japanese person) sounds so much like "kila" or killer.

so, light did not come up with the name "kira", people did... and then he just used it afterwards... however... im sure that the creator used the name keeping this note in mind ^^

from killer.. japanese people find it hard to say words with the letter "L" in it... so they usually change it to "R"... thats how they say it....
