I though Naraku eplained that he wanted the jewel tainted with hatred because it was more beautiful that way, and thats why he made inuyasha and kikyo hate each other

Well your both right a jewel tainted w/ hatred was better since it will increase the power of the demon but also naraku was jelouse of inuyasha and kikyo so he broke them apart but kikyo was smart enough to hide the jewel with her ashes so in the end he was not able to take it.
Naraku is supposed to be pure evil, it makes sense to me. Evil doesn't agree with love.
Kinda like some people I know. :D
