I'm looking for a specific type of mecha anime?!

Question: What mecha anime is out there that will be similar to Teknoma (tekkaman), and The Guyver. Mecha that has people using armor type robots, instead of big robots.

Shows like Eva, Patlabor, and Full Metal Panic do not have what the OP is looking for. Ghost in the Shell kind of works, so long as you are willing to let the characters *be* the small mechs.

The one that pops to mind for me is Bubblegum Crisis (2040 is the better one).

I haven't seen either but FullMetal Panic! has people controlling big robots! It's sooo good, it has mecha and it's funny plus a little suspense, drama and romance.

Plot Summary: Sousuke Sagara, a seventeen year old military specialist working for the secret organization MITHRIL, has been assigned to protect the latest "Whispered" candidate Kaname Chidori. To complete this task Sousuke will have to deal with enemies from his past as well as the occasional panty thief. Unfortunately for Sousuke, the toughest part of his mission isn't only protecting Miss Chidori but also getting used to living an average High School students life, no easy task for someone raised on the battlefield.

There's also two sequels, FullMetal Panic? Fumoffu and FullMetal Panic! The Second Raid.
Fumoffu is pretty much all comedy and fluff...pretty much no mecha. But The Second Raid gets back into mecha and fighting.

Ghost in the Shell

description:
Ghost in the Shell is a futuristic police thriller dealing with the exploits of Motoko Kusanagi, a member of the covert operations section of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission, Section 9, which specializes in fighting technology-related crime. She may be named after one of the three Imperial Regalia of Japan and Shirow makes reference to them at the end of the second manga. Although supposedly equal to all other members, Kusanagi fills the leadership role in the team, and is usually referred to as "the Major" due to her past rank in the armed forces. She is capable of superhuman feats, and cybernetically specialized for her job — her body is almost completely mechanized; only her brain and a segment of her spinal cord are organic.

The setting of Ghost in the Shell is cyberpunk or postcyberpunk, similar to that of William Gibson's Sprawl trilogy. More than other cyberpunk authors, however, Shirow focuses more on the ethical and philosophical ramifications of the widespread merging of humanity and technology, the development of artificial intelligence and an omnipresent computer network set the stage for a reevaluation of human identity and uniqueness. More so than the films, the manga tackles these questions head on: Kusanagi and her colleagues face external threats and also suffer internal conflict over their own natures.

here's some:

PATLABOR (police officer with mecha for duty, fun)
RAHXEPHON
MELODY OF OBLIVION
SAKURA WARS or SAKURA TAISEN (special force equipped with mecha to guard a city)
THE CANDIDATE FOR GODDESS
JIN ROH (a runaway officer in-turn must use this special mecha to find the harsh truth of a gov project)
VANDREAD

enjoy
