When I was reading Death Note Volume 7, Mellow seemed like a girl because of his hair. On the cover of Volume 8, it was still confusing to me if Mellow was a boy or a girl. Mellow's small body, and ...however you'd describe his clothes, lol... and love of chocolate made me think that Mellow was a girl. But the real answer is....
