Yes actually, in many ways OHSHC and MHHC seem a lot alike. There are some obvious parallels with OHSHC - both clubs feature a clueless rich leader, a devious second in command - Kyoya, mischievous twin brothers – Hikaru and Kaoru, and a decidedly unenthusiastic heroine - Haruhi.
The main plot is similar as well: A girl having to pay off a debt to a club by becoming a member and disguising herself as a male. Hockey Club is a little less over the top in its comedy and doesn’t skewer shojo conventions as much as Host Club. The comedy in Hockey Club is based more on the characters’ relationships and travels although an occasional monkey or slobbering wild bear will appear from time to time.
Although, there seems to be less romantic hints in OHSHC, I still feel that the manga Hockey Club holds strong ties with Bisco Hatori’s top-seller.
