The frequent nosebleeds (and subsequent embarassment) of male anime characters are related to a folk-belief that sexual excitement in men leads to a change in blood-pressure, which in turn can cause a nose-bleed. There's a subsidiary belief more profuse the flow, the greater the excitement.

I`m guessing its a way to show that they are nervous and/or embarrassed. :) Like, to a point where blushing doesn`t quite cut it...so I guess they take it up a level, when it comes to half naked women. ;p

the nose bleeds are when usually the characters are thinking or seeing anything perverted.......its like embarrassment you get all red(blushing)....but somehow it makes it funny that they get nose bleeds if they see something so beautiful. Too much blood flowing from the excitement?
Something happens(usually sexual) and their hearts pump harder, blood pressure increases and a nose bleed begins because of the increase in pressure in their blood vessels. It makes sense in a way when u think about it.
