Why aren't there many Anime shows in America?!

Question: On Cartoon Network they have Pokemon, why not any other anime shows?? Adult swim has a few anime shows, but I seriously think there could be a lot more that people in America could enjoy! Maybe even make a channel dependent only on anime! i think it could work.

I know exactly what u mean about the channel. I wish so badly that they would do that. Funimation promised a 24/7 anime channel but when they got it up and running it wasn't even their own channel. It comes on colours, and its only on for I think 2 hours. They piss me off so much too because they show the same animes over and over and never get anywhere in the story because they restart it when it gets so far. Been like that for over a year, they just recently changed the line up, but its the same shows still! So far adult swim is all we have, toonami is there but only once a week, and they only have two animes worth watching. I should try to convince some company to sponsor a channel and call in otv(otaku television), have nothing but anime and maybe some convention specials and interviews. That would be so awesome.

You can rent english dubbed anime from places or buy it. The reason you don't see it often is because they are made in japan and over seas.....and not in america...There are also other cable channels that have anime.

cuz most people cant stand it.

They have more than just Pokemon and what's on Adult Swim- but you are right, Cartoon Network only airs a fraction of the anime from Japan. Other stations like WB and Fox will air some anime, and there actually is at least one specialty station that you have to order seperately that airs only anime (called The Anime Network). Even then, you don't see too many series. If you want to see as much as possible you need to rent/buy the videos (or get fansubs).

There is an Anime on Demand channel. You can buy anime from anime conventions, online, flea markets, Best Buy, SunCoast, FYE, and Walmart. The 4kids channel on basic tv and cable has some anime. One Piece was shown but is was butchered by the dubbed voices. A lot of people in America do watch anime. They watch it on youtube and download it from sites that specialize in streaming anime. Besides, people dont want to sit through commercials when they can watch anime nonstop on the internet.

Wow im suprised that in usa there arent alot of anime shows and i live in kenya and we have a 24 hour channel dedicated to anime called animax.

But on Ytv on fridays theres a program block called anime-niacs which is like 5 hours of anime.

But i heard theres gonna be a CN 2 with toonami each night.

Boy. People say I'm discourteous and rant too much, but this is a good question to set me off on a rant.

Politely, Anime is one style of animation. If you go to any animation festival you will find both the breadth and depth of animation and the breadth and depth of anime represented far more than you will even on say the cartoon network or on any other network deciding to do a lot of it right now. While our enforcement of restrictions on the size of media corporations is so loose we will not have the diversity of voices needed to support the distribution of any genre of anything in depth. If you really want to see good animation, check your local arts papers for animation festivals, research on line and buy dvds and downloads.

Of course Naruto, Inuyasha and other anime shows have made it onto Cartoon Network -- it's not just Pokeman -- but that's the bottom line. A lot more would be available if there were smaller groups of providers who found it economical to compete with each other. That was what happened when the studios were taken out of distribution in the days before TV. It would, even now, probably help more than hurt even as the Internet cuts into their profits.

Well, anime is basically a Japanese cartoon. Since it takes a lot of work so Americans can watch it, most animes aren't show in America. For example, dubbing it, translating, finding voice actors, etc. Since everyone wants to make money, only the most popular animes go through the process for Americans to watch. Also, there are a lot of people in America who do not watch anime and would prefer to watch something else.

It's basically a big corporation thing. It sounds bad but the big wigs believe there aren't many anime watchers in America..Well enough to make big bucks off of. Considering it takes money to redo the episodes into the english versions they don't see a real point in doing it.

you have to buy contracts for many anime, and they do actually have an anime channel, but you gots to pay extra for it
