Question: I don't think it's coincidence. Lots of cartoons and movies have things that fly over kids' heads to help make it a little more enjoyable for adults. I hardly ever see that kind of thing anymore, but watching shows from when I was a kid... I was amazed about how innocent I thought everything was.
Oh man, and watching the cartoons from when my parents were kids was just...wrong. It was amazing what they put in sometimes.

I'm not sure what else Scooby Doobie Doo would have been intended to mean... that and the Scooby snacks and all... or Shaggy's appearance being that of a hippy unlike the rest of them who all seemed to dress about the same...
Either way, it was at least not as blatant as some like Flintstones when it promoted smoking...
