How do people fall in love with anime characters?!

Question: I know this is a stupid question, but it's kind of important. I have a Japanese friend who's, like, head over heels for that inuyasha guy. The one with the ears...
And she's always talking about it. On and on and on.
Is it the same if I fall in love with Bart Simpson?
How do you fall in love with a drawing?

i dont know. My friend is in love with some guy from a video game. And he is half demon and murders people. i think it is weird too. She says it is because of his personality and cause he is drawn to be really attractive. I still dont get it he is still just a cartoon. But to each his own i guess.

As long as your friend is able to tell fantasy from reality i would not worry.

To some people, it is the same thing as falling in love with Captain Jack Sparrow. They aren't really in love, love. Just obsessed and infatuated. Unless they have some sort of really severe problem, they'll still go out on a date with someone who is their type, and shares their interest, and maybe then truelly fall in love (and all the while they may remain obsessed/infatuated).

Well he's name is Inuyasha. But no its not weird its just a projection of what we want in guy I think. I mean I lovveeee Squall(ff8),Tidus(ff10) and Sessy!

Its hard to explain I guess because the style is different then american cartoons that you are able to like them more. You really have to watch anime to understand because I was the same way before I got into anime but now that I love it I have several anime crushes. Its kinda like a fantasy thing that people want but can't have

how do you fall in love with a movie star?....
while anime characters may not be as real as a movie star, they're just as unobtainable.....i have my own anime crush on kakashi from naruto ;P

Falling in love with an anime character is like falling in love with a picture. For example, I used to fall in love with Ken Hidaka and get jealous over his lover in Weiss Kreuz. Or, it is because he has an attitude on how he's created by an artist. He can get along with kids. He kills criminals by night. It's like wishing for a knight in shining armor. You can't find that easy in reality right?

It's basically falling in love with an ideal, albeit a pretty looking one, even if drawn. For me its Teacher from FMA, Faye Valentine from BeBop or the Major (in her more tender moments) from Ghost in the Shell. Nothing more than that. Besides, in real life you get to do more things with the person you love than with an anime. :)

love is not used as it normally is dealing with an infatuation of a person of an anime show. for example i am infatuated with youroichi from bleach but if i say i love her its just an expression of my infatuation. its also a fantasy of sorts. i ? youroichi! lol
hope this hellps with your question, and there is a difference between cartoons (aka: bart simpson[simpsons]) and anime: naruto, inuyasha, blood plus, bleach, ect.

It's not really love- just infatuation. Like falling in "love" with Harry Potter or Jack Sparrow. Ever been in "love" with a pop star? Same thing. Look on Quizilla. TONS of romance stories devoted to fictional characters, singers, movies stars, etc.
She's not in "love" with a picture- shes in "love" with a character.

Youth + Idealized Figure = Infatuation

I never understood it myself.

Even for actors and musicians, I liked their music or movies but I didn't idolize them.

lol, well, usually it's the personality or type that people fall in love with...for instance, I LOVE Kyo Sohma from Fruits Basket, but I just love how he acts and stuff, and fall in love with the idea of him in person...it isn't like I imagine marrying a 2-D person...just their characteristics/personality...What I love about Kyo is he's protective, funny, and really cares...it's basically like falling in love with an actor...you're aware that it's not gonna happen, and you don't necessarily WANT it to, it's just fun!!!

i knew a girl in the fifth grade who had an actual crush on some anime character... i found it a bit strange...lol

I am also an example of the person who always fall in love with the anime... everytime i watch different anime i always have a character whom i will like and cant stop thinking of him... i think the reason why we like those characters is because they were made by the animators.. their job is to make a character which is perfect for everyone to be appreciated by most of the people in any ages...

It is no different than someone being a fan of a real life movie star or pop idol. The only difference is of course the object of desire is a drawing. You are infatuated with the"image" in both cases.

You have to be unable to really, really relate to other people. It helps if you start thinking that nobody likes you and resent it when people try to understand you. Then isolate yourself. (do you know what a hikikomoru is? if not, look it up.) Focus on the fact that the fictional characters are 'perfect'. They never burp or fart or have BO. Notice how all their problems are always resolved by the end of the 23 minute episode, and wish your life could be that way. Oh, it also helps if you remind yourself that the givernment is constanlty spying on you and sending microwaves into your head to change the way you think, so you have to really really remind yourself about this every day so you won't forget. Let me repeat that: you have to really really remind yourself about this every day so you won't forget.

They don't really fall in love. It's just a normal OTAKU/fanatic behavior. What you really liked is the beautiful drawing and awesome characterizations. I used to think Shinomori Aoshi from Rurouni Kenshin is my soul mate. Now I can't even remember why and since Sesshoumaru from Inuyasha is better drawn, he's my current obsession now. LOL!

^_^

because they really like the show a lot. and inuyasha is sooooooooooo cute, the ears are sooooo cute. so your friend is my friend.
i love inuyasha

That's really hard!
Well I'm in love with Takuto (Full Moon wo Sagashite, Kyo (Fruits Basket), and Kaoru (Ouran High School Host Club) so I should be able to answer this question!
I guess it's the same way when you fall in love with a character in a movie. You like the way they look, their personality, etc.
It's also just so much fun to fantasize about it!
I guess the way I got anime crushes on them is because I thought they were sweet, cute, nice, and it's just like "Wow! I wish these guys were real!"
It also proves that you're a huge otaku! I like Takuto, Kyo, and Kaoru, and my friend likes Kisshu, Takuto, and Yuki. We're both huge otakus so I guess it's just an otaku thing!

He's not really a drawing, he's a character. He talks, has feelings, and might I add, is super hilarious. His name in InuYasha. Google him on GoogleImages. His ears are adorable; I think you'd agree!
I am, instead, in love with his half-brother, Sesshoumaru. Let me explain. Sesshoumaru is soooo much better looking (could he get any hotter?) and he is one of the most powerful people on the show. Plus I love his cold attitude and proper language.
So you see, it's more of an obsession with the character than actually falling IN LOVE with them. (Because I think Sesshoumaru would kill me if I ever tried to get with him. He has such a terrible prejudices against humans. *sigh*)
And yes, it's kind of like falling in love with Jack Sparrow!
