The only time he ever realised anything about his past in the first or second chapter of the manga, when he learned that he was the Kyuubi.
Much, much later in a chapter (Somewhere between 360-375 I believe) it is relvealed in a monologue between Jiriaya and Tsunade that Naruto's father was the 4th, and mother was from the Village Hidden in the Whirlpool, and it also showed that he was named after a person from one of Jiraiya's first books around Chapter 380 when he died, but otherwise, he has realised nothing.
it should be within the 1st 3 chapters.
