Question: Does anyone know what year the first issue was released? I'm trying to find one for a v-day present and its hard to determin which ones are the real thing.

Depends on which volume you mean since he's had multiple series. I'm going to guess you mean his first( which was actually a mini series) and I'd have to say December of 1993 for that issue.
