Value of Comic Books?!

Question: I've got a LOT of comic books from the early 90's...most of which were valued fairly highly at the time... (i.e. early Image stuff, 1st prints of the Death of Superman and Breaking of Batman, early Spawn, and many more). I'm holding on to them either way, but are they worth anything?

From the examples you cite, these books are going to be worth considerably more than cover price. To get a better idea, consult either Wizard: The Guide to Comics, a monthly publication with tons of information, plus an updated mini-price guide in the back of each issue, or go to the Overstreet Price Guide, which comes out annually and is considered THE resource for information on appreciated value of comic books.

I used to appraise comics. The Spawn stuff oughta bring in some $. Death of superman was saturated, everyone has that book, I doubt it will collect too much value.

I worked in appraisal years ago though, things change. If I were you, I'd throw them in a long white and bring them down to a comic book shop and act like you want to get rid of them. Whatever they say, add a couple bucks to... Good way to get the rough value.

The problem with certain issues, like the Death of Superman, is that it was mass-produced so depending on the condition, and so on it might not be worth that much. Overstreet is a good place to check and also this site:

Comics (or any other collectible) are only worth what someone else is willing to buy them for. While I agree there's several good price guides and publications that will give 'ballpark figures' check auction sites like eBay or on-line dealers who sell back issues. What is the item you own selling for right now? How much are people willing to bid on it? This will give you a far more realistic idea of the current market value for whatever comics you currently own.

I agree with most of what has been said by the other people answering this question .However never take your comics to a comic shop for a price as almost all will try to rip you off.Your death of Superman maybe worth some cash if it is the black bagged edition that is UNOPENED. As the others have said use the Over street to grade and value your books and then I would slap em on EBay
