You're probably talking about "Now and Then, Here and There".
The originial Japanese title is "Ima, Soko ni Iru Boku?" (translate into something like "Now, I do there?").
It's about a regular boy being dragged into the future or at least somewhere unknown, when he was protecting a mysterious girl from a hostile robot.
The whole thing is just plain too weird to me, even "Steam Boy" made more sense.
