The OVA is generally regarded as better. The episodes are an hour long, they contain MUCH better production quality, and it follows the plot of the manga.
However the OVA series is still in production, and only 3 episodes are out yet as far as I know.
The original anime had an innovative soundtrack, but not much else going for it.
