Since you are starting I suggest Punisher MAX. It has No continuity other than the book it self and it's Spinoffs. Warning Contains Graphic Nudity Swering and Blood Bath, But the Book itself is not centered around those Principles, The Stories are really good. By Garth Ennis
I would also suggest You read Batman Year One, Dark Knight Returns and Dark Knight Strikes Again, After You finish does You Can Start reading All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder Which is a Universe and Dosen't need Continuity other than itself. By Frank Miller
And All Star Superman which again needs No Continuity and it's not tied to All Star Batman, By Grant Morrison
If you like to see Batman in Detective Stories try Batman Detective and Batman Death in the City By Paul Dini.
Detective Comics is the Best Monthly series in DC Continuity right now. The Regular is Paul Dini.
And In a Side note. If you want something Better than Pokemon Avoid Naruto

There is one about to start in Feb. which should be real good I think it is called Kick-*** Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr.
should start with naruto and bleach. those series are the best!

A good series of books depends on your age and what pop culture your into.Your age is also a factor as well if your mature enough I recommend Vertigo's Bite Club or Dark horse's Conan or Star Wars Rebellion.I highly Recommend Daredevil at the moment especially the Ed Brubaker run.Basically it comes down to Your taste and often something you just pick up out of the blue is what your looking for.

Depends on what you like.
Spider Man was recently rebooted, so it's fresh for new readers.
Punisher Max has no real continuity and it should be easy to get into.
Green Lantern recently ended a heavy story arc, so it should be fresh right now and be easy to get into.
Teen Titans is also a good 'starter' book, since it doesn't have heavy continuity and is light hearted.
