Whilst I accept you don't want to go into the "Returns" era of films, check out the original Christopher Reeves film. The only time he gets close to a phone booth is a "top half" one and he has to settle for spinning super fast in a revolving door of a hotel, just before saving Lois Lane from falling out of the helicopter on his "1st night" out in Metropolis. Certainly, in the 4 Reeves films and the "New Adventures of Superman" featuring Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher (now of Desparate Housewives) I don't recall a single incident of Superman requiring a phone booth to change from Clark Kent. In any event, he is less likely to change in a phone booth (which, whilst not 100% sure, probably stems from the comics and the old black and white series) than he is to change whereever was closest but without the prying eyes to crack his secret identity.
