No,he didn't die because at the tomb where Saya lies sleeping at the finale, Kai and the children found a pink rose tied with a blue ribbon. It is obvious that Hagi is the one who puts it there since he's the only one in the whole gang who uses ribbons (and a blue one) to tie his hair. And the color of the rose is pink because in episode 17, Saya once asks him (he was small) to pick the roses again because she likes her roses to be pink. I think only Hagi and Saya knew about the color so it must be him..
